Test Your Classical Listening Skills

This week I'd like to challenge you to test your listening skills with a piece from the classical period of music history. Truly classical pieces like Clementi's Sonatina in C Major, Opus 36 No. 3, have a simple beauty and sense of intelligence that you will come to appreciate even more as you learn about the fascinating details hidden in this genre.

What characteristic features of the period do you notice when you hear the piece? Answer these statements with a true or false.

1) Classical music uses the damper pedal a lot.
2) Classical sonatinas have different sections (movements) with different moods.
3) Many phrases in this piece end softly and delicately.
4) I hear slurs but not staccatos in this piece.
5) This song sounds pounded out and heavy.

How did you do? Check back for the answers soon!
